As the unfolding disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant filled screens around the world, my father and I were in France, waiting in suspended anticipation for an imminent birth: that of my cousin. The joy of this new arrival, five days after the tragedy, faded somewhere along the telephone line, without ever truly reaching us.

The disaster acted as a clear rupture, drawing an invisible barrier that prevented our two childhoods from unfolding together, separated by fear and enforced geographical distance. This project envisions the family film that was never made, a dialogue across key life stages featuring three generations of women. In attempting to mend our childhoods, the narrative questions how bonds endure through the trials of the world. Blending personal archives with a search for reconnection, the film seeks to transform a traumatic landmark into an act of repair, making the image a space of continuity between us.
